About Me

About Me

My name is Deandre Turner. I am currently a freshman at Old Dominion University, majoring in Cybersecurity with a minor in Business Administration. I am a retired veteran who served in the United States Navy from 2018 to 2024. My rank when I left the service was E-5, and my rate was Engineman. I gained a lot of technical experience and personal discipline through my military service, which I now try to apply to my education and work life. My current schedule consists of going to work at my job, coming home to complete school assignments, and in between those tasks, I try to hit the gym or cook dinner when possible. My current occupation is as a maintenance technician at a financial institution called Fiserv. It’s a stable job, but not one I see myself doing long-term. What I hope to achieve in the upcoming semesters is to find a cybersecurity internship, finish my degree, and take time to explore personal passions like making music. I’ve always been interested in music production and would like to blend that passion with my technical background if possible. My long-term goal is to transition into a career that is not only more aligned with my field of study but also personally fulfilling. I eventually want to leave my current job for a more fitting one, possibly earn a master’s degree, and work my way into a specialized role in cybersecurity. I also plan to take the next steps in my personal life, which include getting married and buying a home, are things I want to accomplish towards the end of my schooling years. I am motivated by the idea of building a stable and meaningful life, and I know that education is one of the keys to making that happen.
